Natural materials
The construction of a tree house differs considerably from that of other structures and requires a deeper understanding of the used building materials and materials. The most widely used material is wood, because of its excellent properties such as weather resistance and coloring. The surfaces inside and outside often remain untreated. In other cases they are oiled, waxed or painted. The isolation of the tree house is also built from natural materials such as wood fiber boards or coconut fibers. The modern techniques of today ensure a high stability of the tree house to achieve, without burdening the tree too much or hurt. In order to take the greatest possible regard for nature and the environment, we do without screws and bolts and instead use guyed rope constructions and textile straps. This construction allows the tree freedom of movement and a further, free growing without coercion and pressure.
Tree houses are built in different sizes and designs - horizontally and vertically oriented, on several levels and at different heights.

Which trees are suitable for building a tree house?
A tree house can be constructed for almost every tree. The species, the stability and the health of the trees have an influence on the size and height of the tree house. To have more room, you can use two or more trees. The lack of strength of the trees can be compensated with additional supports, which may even offer several design options. However, if suitable trees are not available for the desired tree house project, then almost any conceivable size and design can be realized even with a construction completely supported on the floor.
Well suited trees are e.g. Oaks, lindens, ash trees, beech trees, chestnuts and mature fruit trees, as well as larger coniferous trees such as cedars, pines and firs.

The construction of tree houses
Worldwide there are about 20 companies that have specialized explicitly in the construction of tree houses. Their offer ranges from simple tree terraces to bright studios to exclusive tree suites with extensive interior design in the park of renowned hotels.
These truly exclusive tree houses are built inside and out of solid wood and have all the amenities of a modern hotel room. Extensive glazing, skylight, small bathroom with toilet, heating facilities and beds are available. In the interior of some of these tree houses even TV, stereo, mini bar and telephone are integrated.
The construction of tree houses is individually planned by the companies that specialize in it and adapted to local conditions. The costs vary greatly from tree house to tree house. Smaller constructions can be realized from 5,000 euros. For the larger ones, the price range is between 18,000 and 150,000 euros. Of course, everything is included in this price - from the planning of the construction project over materials and assembly to the interior of the tree house. The duration of production may be between 3 and 7 months.
Here is a small list of German companies that realize unique projects in the branches of trees: tree baron, tree room and tree house lodge.
Construction law for tree houses
Sometimes you have to have a tree house approved, because the construction law differs from state to state. In most cases, self-made tree houses in their own garden or land need no building permit because they are not constantly inhabited. A permit requires the so-called developments, the fire pits and the sanitary facilities. It would be best to inquire about the start of construction with the competent building authority. Tenants are not allowed to build a tree house on the rented property.
