Why does the project carry this name? Surely many readers are wondering. The former mayor of Berlin Klaus Wowereit tried years ago to provoke more creativity in the city with the phrase "is poor, but sexy". This statement is the foundation of the Hagar Abiri design project, which we would like to introduce to you today. The project is titled "poor but sexy" for its reference to the Shabby chic decor and the pioneering spirit of the city.
The kitchen cabinet is designed with a black board
It is about the renovation of an old traditional apartment in Berlin's Prenzlauer Berg district, where the designer uses the building materials of the building as its main design feature. The living area of this apartment is 82 sqm. The main problems with their transformation are the floor plan and the very robust walls. Wisely, this disadvantage has been turned into advantage - the walls have been preserved in their full roughness and decorated only with time signs.
The bar stools with black seats are perfect for the kitchen cabinet
The tenant of the remodeled apartment is a married couple, their daughter and her dog are also there. The young family emigrated from the warm, beautiful city of Tel Aviv to Berlin. In their homeland they were used to different types of use of space. And so the apartment got its new, brighter and more open look. In order to increase the flow of light into the rooms, the designer made the decision to paint all the doors in white. These bright elements combine very skillfully the youthful atmosphere, taken over from Tel Aviv, with the old, traditional character of the original appearance of the Berlin apartment. Some of the furniture, such as chairs, dining table and light, have been carefully bought in thrift stores and by Ebay. A few chairs and shelves were designed by the designer and made by a carpenter. The coffee table in the living room was created by the designer in the spirit of the project. Some visual elements such as pictures (old street view of Tel Aviv in earlier times) and vitrages (window made of colorful glass panes) were brought from Tel Aviv.
