Spring comes with the magnificent blooms of the violas

The pansies are typical early bloomers that are grown in pots, flower boxes or directly in the garden. They delight our eyes and souls on the first days of spring. Without a doubt, the pansies are among the popular spring flowers of many hobby gardeners not only in Germany, but also worldwide. These little natural beauties are still known by their Latin name - Viola / Violen, in some areas nationwide they are also called violets. These belong to the family Violet family (Violaceae). The genus includes about 500 species that are less or more common in Germany. The garden pansies and the horned violets are among the most popular and popular varieties. There are violet species that occur freely in nature. The interesting thing about all the violas is the arrangement of their petals. The lowest petal is called "the stepmother" and it covers the lateral leaves, the "daughters". This explains the widespread name Pansy. The flowers are usually multicolored. Typical colors are white, yellow and purple. In the case of the violas, however, there is a real variety of colors, as they can also be dyed in midnight blue, claret or bright orange. The pansies look very tender in pastel colors like light pink or sky blue. The flowers may be spotted, striped or banded, some varieties have one black eye in the middle, others are missing.

Pansies in rich yellow bring the spring into your garden.

The pansies are actually a one-, two- or multi-year-old herb, which thrives well with little care. They are found in many countries of Asia, Europe, but also in America and Australia, where temperate climate prevails. You can easily raise the violets on the balcony in flower boxes, in pots or other flower containers at home or outdoors in the garden in flower beds. They bloom from the beginning of April until late summer and fill your interior or exterior with lots of color, cheerfulness and good mood. Choose a full sun to partial shade for your pansies and pour moderately. You must be very careful with watering and manuring so that you do not damage these delicate beauties. They do not like waterlogging, because this could lead to rot. Do not use strong fertilizers, a nutrient-rich, low-calcium substrate would be perfect for them. It is still recommended to remove all withered flowers as often as possible, thus extending the flowering time of your pansy.

Useful Info:

Most varieties of pansies are hardy. In principle they do not shy away from frost or snow. However, you can protect your violets outside from too low temperatures by covering them with leaves or brushwood. So they hibernate easily and look at the first warm rays of the sun out of the ground.
