Birds in our garden - how do they spend the winter?

Are you looking forward to a walk through the snowy forest over the great song of these forest dwellers? Many birds spend winter here in Germany and always enjoy their presence. In today's article, we will briefly tell you about them and share a few tips about their winter feeding.

  • The nuthatch is easily recognizable by its black blindfold and orange-beige underside. The nuthatch is feathered in blue gray on the back. The cute bird has a unique way skillfully climbing tree trunks and branches up and down and even down the hill. He is looking for insects.

The Nuthatch likes to deny other birds access to its nesting cave. The entrance is covered with clay - except for a small hole of about 4 cm in diameter. From this his name can be derived.

These little friends also feed on seeds and nuts.

His back is black, with large white spots in the upper part, the underside is greyish white and the head is black and white colored. By the way, the male has a red occiput. This little bird is the most common woodpecker bird in Germany. His Nestzeigeverhalten is interesting because of the demonstrative tapping. The great spotted woodpecker feeds on insects, insect larvae and spiders, as well as with berries and nuts.

  • The lively blue tit is the only blue-yellow bird in Europe. You can see them on the white front part, the black eye stripe and the blue-colored wing and black feathers. In mild winters, the birds can easily get their own food. At low temperatures, however, they need help, e.g. well protected bird houses or small delicacies. How nice do you find a visit to these cute birds in your garden or on your balcony?

Only in winter, from November to the end of February, feed should be laid out for them. The small feathered friends like clean houses, so should be selected those in which the animals do not walk around in the feed. Wet and dry, the house would have to stay. The food could simply consist of sunflower seeds and mixed birdseed.
