New Year's Resolutions Update--September Edition

02 September 2013

Check out my original New Year's Post as well as my JanuaryMarchAprilMayJuneJuly and August updates.

Resolution 1:
What I aimed for:  I am going to continue my pursuit of a better me by increasing my exercise habits, reducing my sugar intake, cutting carbs and substituting tea for coffee after 8 a.m. I will be working on staying hydrated throughout the day keeping my tummy full and my system clean.

How it is going: I am maintaining my fitness routine. I go to BarreAmped 3-4 times a week. Sand volleyball is over on Sundays so I am looking for a more fall-friendly sport. I mentioned in the August update that I had tried Krav Maga, the Isreali self-defense system. I went to two out of the four Saturdays but never really got into it. I guess I'm not a really aggressive person; however, I do encourage feeling empowered by learning self-defense. I have cut down on caffeine to about 16 oz of coffee a day.

I'm thinking of a new diet challenge. I pretty much each clean but I love finding new lifestyles to try. For example, between November 2011 and Dec 25th 2011, I practiced a vegetarian lifestyle. I loved how it made me feel. I'm thinking of trying to go back to vegetarian or trying vegan or gluten free. Have you experimented with any of these diet lifestyles? I'm worried that removing antigens like dairy and gluten will have adverse effects if I ever go back on what I would consider my "normal" diet.

Resolution 2:
What I aimed for: I am going to reduce my frivolous spending on clothes, coffee, snacks and groceries while upping my personal savings.

How it is going: Financially, things are MEH. I was drained to the very last penny last month in my person account. Between spending time over coffee and lunches to getting a pedicure again at the beginning of the month, I was toast. I just went to the store on Saturday after about 4 weeks. Hopefully that will prevent us from eating out so frequently!

Resolution 3:
What I aimed for: I aim to spend time with the Lord each day in prayer, Bible study and prayer journeling.

How it is going: I am still reading my daily verse on the Bible App on my phone. I was thinking of posting that verse daily as a way of spreading hope and the Gospel to my friends, readers and family.  I'm really digging my Christian radio at work [93.7 The Fish on my iHeart Radio app]. Somehow I don't feel like I'm missing anything in mainstream radio.

If you have any prayer requests that I can be praying for you, please email me tobemrscollier@gmail.com. Nothing means more to me than lifting you up!

Resolution 4:
What I aimed for: I aim to spend one day per month volunteering in my community and giving my time to those around me.

How it is going: I still haven't attended a new volunteer opportunity since my time at Second Harvest Food bank but I do volunteer my time frequently at church as well as on campus where I work. Could I do more? Yes. Do I want to do more? Absolutely! But I'm having a hard time finding THE TIME. Any thoughts or recommendations on this would be greatly appreciated!!

Resolution 5:
What I aimed for: I am to spend less time and say,"no," to every obligation and spend more quality time with my husband.

How it is going: Things are going super well for us in the marriage department!

What have you learned by making New Year's Resolutions? Did you learn anything about yourself?
