Happy August 1st! New Year's Resolutions Confessional

01 August 2013

Check out my original New Year's Post as well as my JanuaryMarchAprilMay, June and July updates.

Resolution 1:
What I aimed for:  I am going to continue my pursuit of a better me by increasing my exercise habits, reducing my sugar intake, cutting carbs and substituting tea for coffee after 8 a.m. I will be working on staying hydrated throughout the day keeping my tummy full and my system clean.

How it is going: I am maintaining my fitness routine. I go to BarreAmped 3-4 times a week and play sand volleyball on Sundays at church [anyone in the Nashville area who enjoys sand volleyball should contact me and join us!!!]. I also picked up a living social coupon for Krav Maga. Ever heard of it? It is one of those "musts" on my lifetime bucket list. Not only does it teach self defense, you are getting quite the workout! I have three more sessions before the voucher expires so that is what I'll be doing on Saturdays. We have a 5k this Saturday which should be fun! The coffee not going so well. I drink anywhere from 8-20 ounces of coffee a day. But I have been trying to use skim milk instead of cream to lower the extra fat content in my diet. I could work on upping my water but fortunately, I have NUUN tablets to keep my drinks tasty without all of the sugar of regular sport drinks. If you haven't tried NUUN, you should get on that pronto!

Resolution 2:
What I aimed for: I am going to reduce my frivolous spending on clothes, coffee, snacks and groceries while upping my personal savings.

How it is going: Financially, things are going well. I've been saving like crazy and being quite frugal. I finally caved in and got a pedicure before we went on vacation to the beach. We've been busy lately and that has been challenging as far as eating out more frequently. Hopefully, now that the travel has died down, we'll get back on track grocery wise.

Resolution 3:
What I aimed for: I aim to spend time with the Lord each day in prayer, Bible study and prayer journeling.

How it is going: The best thing I ever did was download the Bible App on my phone. Each day there is a verse that I read and often share with my friends on facebook. I find that it sets the tone for my day and puts my thoughts into perspective. One great piece of advice that I learned as a chaperon at youth camp was that camp is special because you literally spend the entire time, every waking hour worshiping God. Prayer, Bible study, small groups and worship music are instrumental in the "camp high." I decided to take that advice to heart and listen to Christian radio, 93.7 The Fish on my iHeart Radio app each day at work. I praise God while I am working.

If you have any prayer requests that I can be praying for you, please email me Nothing means more to me than lifting you up!

Resolution 4:
What I aimed for: I aim to spend one day per month volunteering in my community and giving my time to those around me.

How it is going: I still haven't attended a new volunteer opportunity since my time at Second Harvest Food bank but I do volunteer my time frequently at church as well as on campus where I work. Could I do more? Yes. Do I want to do more? Absolutely! But I'm having a hard time finding THE TIME. Any thoughts or recommendations on this would be greatly appreciated!!

Resolution 5:
What I aimed for: I am to spend less time and say,"no," to every obligation and spend more quality time with my husband.

How it is going: Mr. Collier and I have stopped our dance lessons but it doesn't mean that our quality time has decreased! We had a blast together on vacation! We still set aside our Friday morning breakfast dates. Things are going super well for us in the marriage department!

Are you still working on your new year's resolutions? Any that have worked well?
Any that you'd try again?

  1. I just downloaded the Bible app last week. I kind of fell away from it...well, not entirely, I just wasn't as formal with my prayer and study. I have looked into the She Reads Truth is a nice way for me to revisit the Bible.

On another note: looks like you have kept most of your resolutions in one way or another. My resolutions were more goals and I am still working towards them. ALthough this year I think I have done the best on them than last couple of years!

  2. If I can encourage you in any way, please let me know!
