This Weekend, I joined the Rest of Humanity

13 August 2013

This past weekend, I joined the rest of the world. I watched AVATAR. Gasp!

Curse me because I hadn't seen it before AND I saw it on T.V. with commercials. It took about 4 hours. I never thought AVATAR would be a movie for me. I'm more of a lover of the comedy and romance (always with a hint of drama). Never been drawn to super sci-fi or action movies. But I must admit that it was pretty good.

It goes without saying that the way the film was shot is unparalleled. And because I watched it with the DVD on T.V. show platform, I saw behind the scenes footage before commercial breaks. Seriously, beautiful. And I also learned that I'd rather die than work for James Cameron. His meticulous nature makes for a great film and he is great at what he does. If you happen to be reading this, James Cameron, it's me not you!

I also discovered another thing that I'm pretty sure that I missed the boat on. I'm working on The Love Dare. Have you heard of it? I found The Love Dare at an estate sale a few weeks back. It is based upon the movie Fireproof. The idea is that every day you have a challenge to foster greater love between you and your spouse. It is a great study so far and Biblically based. Day one is about patience and day two is about gentleness. I love how it is written for both genders so that it isn't preachy towards the wife or just the husband. Anyone can read this book and love it. I'll keep you updated on how these things are going.

What have you discovered recently that perhaps you missed the boat on the first go-around?

  1. I bought the Love Dare when it came out with the best intentions to actually go through it, but I still haven't. Avatar is a great movie! Glad you finally got to watch it!

  4. I can't lie, I was totally unimpressed with Avatar. I probably can't appreciate the special effects like other people can, and the story line I found to be weird and boring. I heard there's gonna be two more though? ...I have the Love Dare but haven't done it yet. I can't wait to hear how it goes for you!!

    1. I can see where you are coming from. Apparently, there is a camp that feels that is was FernGully with better graphics. And you have to check out The Love Dare!!

  5. I still need to watch Avatar. I started watching it with a guy friend, way back in the day (3 years ago) and then we went off and did something else instead and a week later her broke my heart, so anytime I turn it on, I think of him :P
And I need to go through that book! We got it for our wedding and it's still sitting on my nightstand. Stupid textbooks that I have to read instead! Thanks for linking up.

    1. It is a movie worth seeing. My advice is to watch it on DVD or Blue-ray as opposed to T.V. with commercials. Spare yourself the 4 hours or so!

I think we should start an online study together of The Love Dare!!

  6. Fireproof is one of my fave movies. A church 45 minutes from here is who makes those movies. They are great. I loved the book too. (Love Dare). The other movies are great too. Fireproof and Courageous.

    It goes like this...

    Facing the Giants
    Fireproof
    Courageous.

You need to watch in order to understand things and know who some of the characters are in the movies. There's one before facing the giants but it's an older movie. its their first one so it's poorly done.
