Life, GLEE and Cory Monteith

15 July 2013

I'm sure that you have heard the news by now that Cory Monteith, a.k.a Finn Hudson, one of the stars of Glee has passed away at the young age of 31. My heart goes out to Lea Michele, Monteith's real-life girlfriend and co-star of Glee, his family, friends, cast and co-stars. Cory will be remembered by his talent, good heart and spirit he brought to this world.
I must admit that I am stunned by this type of news because Cory was so young, not much older than me. Sure things happen and I believe that when it is your time, it is your time but that doesn't soften the blow of one day someone is here and the next they are not. Reading the news stories throughout the day yesterday and the outpouring of tweets made me think about how precious and transient our time on Earth really is. I mean Cory tweeted on July 12th, the day before his passing and it was his last. Not that tweets and social media matter but there is something deeply profound about it. Which tweet, conversation, look, laugh and post will be our last?

Cory's last tweets

We walk around as if we are unbreakable. Like nothing could ever happen to me. But dear friends, that is far from the truth. We are just as likely to be next. Am I suggesting that we become depressed about it? Renegade perhaps? No! I'm saying that life is short so make it count. I certainly will.

I absolutely love the first two seasons of Glee and will be the first to admit that I am a sucker for drama and musical theater. As such, I thought it would be only appropriate to share a few songs that will be forever memorialize Cory and his talent to me. Granted he is an actor but look how happy he appears when he sings with Lea.

  1. I'm so broken hearted over this too and everytime I hear of stories like this, I think about how short and precious life is and how we only have this one life and we should be living it to the fullest!

  2. Ah Glee, my guilty pleasure! It always makes me want to be on stage again!!!!! And I like that thought, what are our last posts going to be?! They ALWAYS read into people's last Facebook status, etc. like, "Did they know?" Obviously his weren't super profound... but still....

  3. Such sad news. I've definitely been a Glee fan from the begining, as couldn't believe it when I heard the news.
