New Year's Resolutions, Remember Those?

01 April 2013

How are those New Year's Resolutions going for you? I know, I had to dust off some mental space to recall what I was supposed to be working on too! Check out my original New Year's Post as well as my January and March updates. In my book, it is never too late to start over. And like many inspirational quotes tell me, it is better to overcome my mental block and go for it because I'll never regret trying!

  • One for health: I am going to continue my pursuit of a better me by increasing my exercise habits, reducing my sugar intake, cutting carbs and substituting green tea for coffee after 8 a.m. I will be working on staying hydrated throughout the day keeping my tummy full and my system clean.

04/01: It has been three months and I am still hovering 2 lbs away from my goal weight. I am still regularly attending BarreAmped and have noticed my size 8 pants are more loose than previously noted. I think I see abs in the mirror!!! I am still working on avoiding high fructose corn syrup. My new interest in health promotion is to initiate a clean eating shift in snacking and meals. Caffeine has not decreased, sadly. I just can't seem to give the stuff up. I worry when I eventually get pregnant, it is going to have to go away....but I'll cross that bridge when I get there. I need to drink more water. Perhaps that will be my April goal?

  • One for wealth: This year I resolve to reduce my frivolous spending on clothes, coffee, snacks and groceries. All savings will be set aside and left untouched. Mr. Collier and I are hoping to save enough to get a down payment on our first home in the coming year or two. That and we may have to make a car purchase if his truck decides to bite the dust.

04/01: Finances have been rough. I have had a lot going on between catering for my birthday bash, treating friends to dinner and wedding season has begun. I have to keep a minimum balance in my savings account to avoid a fee, so a lot tends to sequester there unable to be spent. However, I'm still doing very well with my K-cup coffee and even got a gift card or two for my birthday to splurge on coffee shop brews. I'm still squirreling away my money at the end of the month towards the 52 week goal.

  • One for me: This year I resolve to spend quality time with the Lord each day in prayer, bible study and prayer journaling. I spent some time throughout the year working on a daily bible verse and devotional in my Christian walk blog but I could always improve in daily renewal in the Spirit.

04/01: Probably the most important resolution that I made, I've devoted the least amount of time to! Arg! My women's Bible study is over at church on Wednesday nights but Mr. Collier and I are still teaching in the Youth at church on Sundays. This resolution will be the one I will most focus on in the coming month of April.

  • One for humanity: This year I resolve to spend one day per month volunteering and giving my time to those around me. When I moved to Nashville I joined Hands On Nashville to seek out volunteer opportunities but unfortunately, I've never followed through on that one.

04/01: I'm on the search for a new volunteer opportunity! Turns out the food bank, Second Harvest is overloaded with volunteers and they don't have enough food to sort until the summer! Wow! That is awesome for them and the folks that they serve but I'd like to get my hands dirty for my fellow man. If you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them!

  • One for my marriage: This year I resolve to spend less time saying,"yes," to every person and their mother that asks me to be a part of something and spend more time with my husband. And by time, I mean not in front of the T.V. True, quality time. I want my marriage to be as beautiful as my wedding was.
04/01: I've culled down three obligations thus far since March making free time for Mr. Collier and myself. We
are still going on our Friday morning breakfast dates, now part of our routine. We spend a lot of quality time
together, with the exception of me writing this post right now. I feel like our marriage is strong and true.
