It's Wedding Week: Day 3

11 January 2012

"Out Numbered"

Today is my last official day on the job so interestingly I'm not doing much wedding stuff today. However, the story for Mr. Collier is different. He has informed me that he will be spending the day getting the house prepared for the arrival of our families and friends through the weekend. He also is undertaking the task of preparing a turkey dinner for us all tomorrow night. After getting the number of welcome bags together for our guests, he will also begin to divide those out in preparation for tomorrow's To-Do list. Oh and there is the never ending pile of laundry that needs to be tackled!

"Can I come out now?"
If you haven't considered getting a planner, I would highly recommend it. It is in the end times (ok, that is just funny to me) we have relied so much on our planner for support and assistance. Our planner, Sarah @ Music City Events is stellar. Not only is she passionate about her job but she is efficient, on point and know how to steer this crazy train! Many individuals feel that the investment of a planner isn't in the budget but I'll tell you straight up as a frugal individual, Sarah has without a doubt gotten us back more than half of the cost of hiring her company through exclusive vendor discounts and just being aware of good deals around town. If you can't afford a planner I might suggest just a day-off coordinator and then talk to some recent brides in your area who have likely done some research already.

Anyway, Happy T-3 days!

It's Wedding Week: Day 4

10 January 2012

"Out Numbered"

It is day 4 believe it or not!

Today has been filled with last minute details regarding our schedule for the rest of the week. To-do lists have been compiled for each day (of course on a google doc) so that Mr. Collier and I can both work on it together. It makes a difference when your partner gets involved. Otherwise there is no way in hades that this mountain is going to move!

I also "marked up" (for you theater or dance types) our first dance song "Fire and Dynamite" by Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors. See the Day 5 post for an exclusive sneak peek at the tune. The cues have been set for starting and finishing. We also picked a cake cutting song today by another local artist, Ben Rector. If you don't know him, you should because he is fabulous!

The rest of the focus of today is on wrapping things up at work. That is right. I'm still working. And in a way I think it was the best because it is distracting me enough from all the little things happening at the end of the week! Happy T minus 4 days!

It's Wedding Week: Day 5

"Out Numbered"
It is officially my last Monday before I become Mrs. Collier! Crazy town.

Today we focused mainly on our first dance. Believe it or not it is one of the things I am most nervous about regarding the wedding. So last night we busted out the vinyl and my wedding shoes and gave it a whirl in the living room. Fortunately, we worked out some kinks! But overall I think we'll do alright.

As a sneak peek, here is "our song" Fire and Dynamite that we will be dancing to by Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors.

It's Wedding Week Day 6!

08 January 2012

"Out Numbered"
Yesterday's run to purchase the wine and beer went quite well. As it turns out, we are going to be coming in -around $400 under our budget! I love those words "under budget"--they are so calming. Today is day 6 in the countdown and our goal today is to get the posse, parents and pastor's gifts together. I've also begun sorting what has to end up at the ceremony or the reception. The gifts themselves will be handed out on Friday at the rehearsal dinner as a way to say, "thanks," for all of their love and support. As much as Mr. Collier and I have planned to keep things inexpensive for our posse and co. doesn't mean they still didn't have to contribute financially to the wedding by getting here, renting tuxes, buying a new black dress, or throwing me a bachelorette party or us a shower.

A coupon Wedding: Nails

1957 Revlon Nail Enamel Ad from Good Housekeeping

The pictures are going to be up close and personal the day of the wedding therefore a manicure and pedicure in preparation for the big day is absolutely essential. Fortunately, today's deal from Livingsocial.com is a manicure and pedicure combination at the Nail Spa at Green Hills Mall. $30 is for a VIP mani/pedi combo! If this were my wedding, I'd encourage my bridesmaids to also purchase and that way we could all get the spa treatment together! I am going to "purchase" two of these livingsocial coupons: 1 for the bride and one for the mother of the bride (MOB) as a gift! That total comes to $60 + $14 for tips.

It's Wedding Week! Day 7

07 January 2012

"Out Numbered"

That's right we are in the last 7 days before the wedding. Each day I'll be posting a little blurb about what we are up to in order to give you a taste of what happens the week before a wedding. And let me tell you, for us, having a planner is key!

Today, we pickup our wine! Over the last week we have been tasting a variety of bottles but now comes the real thing. The purchase. We've budget $1500 for beer and wine and I think that is totally achievable as long as we do our homework. Since the new year holiday we have visited and called local liquor stores to get quotes, price comparisons, per case discount policies, etc. Key to any purchase, becomes friends with the staff. They can often help you out.

As with any wedding purchase, it is often better to not divulge that you are having a wedding as opposed to a large party just in case there is a screwy increase in price for weddings. I realize everyone is trying to survive in the economy but don't screw over brides, they bite.

A coupon Wedding: Photobooth!

Wedding receptions can be sort of boring so why not spice it up with a photobooth? Well today, livingsocial is offering a 3 hour photobooth rental for $449.00. That includes an attendant and one double print per setting. We may have to provide the props but that is the easy part. Or we can take the classic boardwalk route and hang an interesting curtain in the back.

A coupon Wedding: The Rings

06 January 2012

The exchange of rings is the climax of the whole wedding ceremony. But why spend a fortune? Today, for our ficticious wedding, I will be purchasing wedding rings from Overstock.com. For the women's wedding band I have selected the standard inlay diamond ring below. This ring currently is on sale for $299.99 but jewelry at Overstock.com often is on sale so if you catch it at the right time, it could be cheaper.

14k White Gold 1/6 ct. Wedding Band

For the man, I have selected the ever popular Tungsten ring. I like the look of this ring and it is currently on sale for $23.99. You can't beat that!

Don't forget to check sites like Retailmenot.com for discount codes or Freeshipping.org. With the purchase of these two rings from Overstock.com here is where our budget now stands:

Bajafondo

This includes an introductory dance package including one private lesson, one group lesson, one club party, and one night out on on the town. So for $50, you and a partner can have some killer dance moves!

A coupon Wedding: Setting the Deadline

02 January 2012

The fictitious date for our coupon wedding will be April 27th, 2012. That's right. A Friday night wedding. Often, having weddings on Fridays or Sundays will drop venue prices and that will work great with our smaller budget. Also, an outdoor option such as a friend's backyard or park pavilion could be excellent choices as well.

Keeping Nails Healthy

I hate to admit it but I'm one of those people who have cuticle issues. I wear nitrile or latex gloves at work. My hands are in water a lot. But worst of all, I pick and pull at my cuticles resulting in unsightly nails. But that is no longer! A week ago when I went for my maintenance manicure before the wedding, I learned a secret of the trade.

opi skull and glossbones

Vaseline. As it turns out a nightly application of petroleum jelly does the trick! Make sure you don't have any cuts or infections before you use it. For the last week, since I started applying the Vasoline my nails look fantastic. And I feel like I've exhausted every possible treatment like lotion, vitamin E oil, cuticle oil, etc. But I'm very impressed with this beauty secret!
